You can do every bit of your content creation with free tools. Photoshop is much more widely known and used, but if you don't have the money for it, The Gimp is free. Modo will definately do UV mapping in their next version.įor creating the textures,Photoshop or The Gimp are both nice. Actually, i'm not 100% sure of modo and cheeta but i'm sure someone will correct me here if that's incorrect. Wings 3d, Modo, and Cheeta3d will do modeling, and UV mapping. The other tool is a program like Photoshop or The Gimp which will let you actually paint what you've unwrapped. One will be a 3d program that lets you "Unwrap" your 3d model and lay it flat. You will need 2 tools to accomplish this. UV mapping is the process of getting a picture to wrap around the model you made. Perhaps check out Cheetah3d or Wings3d if you are very new to modeling. Each of those pieces of software take a slightly different approach to modeling however, so it really comes down to which one you enjoy using. This can be accomplished by every piece of software you mentioned. What you are going to need is a way to create 3d models. This can be a complicated issue because alot of it relies on personal taste, but i can try to help you with understanding the different components of the tools you mentioned, and a really general run down of what you are going to need.
